RPSL LICENSE
Recruitment and Placement Services License (RPSL) is issued by the Directorate General of Shipping (Government of India) as per the Indian Merchant Shipping Act under the rule of RPS. This Act and license provide the process, mechanism, and guidance for the protection and security of native (Indian) seafarers (officers, trainees, ratings and petty officers) designated on foreign or Indian Flag Vessels. It also helps in safeguarding the restoration and repatriation of seafarers during other emergencies such as when shipowner fails to manage the repatriating seafarers to the native Indian port. 

There are several RPS (Recruitment and Placement Service) Providers who need to do registration for obtaining RPS License. These companies require renewing their license after expiry date/year. They need to submit their monthly report to DG shipping/Seamen’s Employment Offices with properly documented information such as CDC No., the name of the seafarer, Name of vessel, the name of the flag he/she has joined, date of the sign on, date of sign off and arrival in India. This documented information is maintained in a register of DG Shipping which is written and sent by the RPS Company every month. Every RPS is tagged with a specific RSPL number which needs to be mentioned on contract papers of seafarers, official documents and sea time certificate. G.P. RATING

G.P. RATING General Purpose Rating is a six-month-long course for merchant navy. GP rating is characterized by the job roles in the deck or engine crew. It is pre-sea training includes two chief cadets- engine crew and deck crew.
