Today, the primary and significant challenge faced by the logistics industry is the inadequate incorporation of transport networks, warehousing, distribution facilities, and information technology. Its regulation and control rely on different levels of execution, i.e., national, regional and local organizations. However, the management varies from region to region and city to city, hamstring the formation of national networks. Skilled and trained workers are necessary for the logistics sector as well as retailing and manufacturing sector. Practically, they are weak at IT, warehouse, and driving as well as strategy implementation level. The unarranged and messed up nature of the Indian logistics sector has resulted in a deficit in client service personnel and proficient management due to lack of training institutions and its perspective as a manpower-heavy industry. There is a shortage of IT standard, unification of poor systems and equipment.
Unsatisfactory facilities and management are the main cause of damages of stock, high losses, and deterioration of products. The reason for this problem is the inadequacy of specialized equipment, refrigerated storage, containers and partly the lack of training also. The trainees, practitioners, and scholars are familiar with the importance of logistics and supply networks. However, this sector is still under infiltration concerning the research and development. It is crucial to plan out and make a priority for research and development so that weaknesses, strength, threats, and opportunities can be analyzed to promote improvements.
