In the merchant navy, familiarization with ships, duties, information, and way of work is necessary which comes under onboard ship training. The new crew members undergo proper training to understand their responsibilities and take a snap of information of other departments before holding their job profile. 

The primary motive of the onboard ship training is to make crew members aware of safety procedures and how to execute drills during any situation of emergency. Seafarers can do their job efficiently if they go through the excellent training of personal safety and ship’s well-being. On-board ship training decides the performance, transportation, safety, security and competitiveness of a merchant navy ship.

G.P. RATING General Purpose Rating is a six-month-long course for merchant navy. GP rating is characterized by the job roles in the deck or engine crew. It is pre-sea training includes two chief cadets- engine crew and deck crew. For this course, the age limit is between 18 to 25 years which is taken into consideration during the process of admission.
