Pre Sea training is the short term course for the candidates who want to join merchant navy specifically on the deck side. It helps in preparation for being fit and knowledgeable before going for a job role in merchant navy. Pre Sea is basically Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS) which is a one year course during whit cadet gets to learn about navigation, Seaman Ship, Rule of the road, cargo loading and unloading, Ropeworks such as knots and splicing, electronic equipment, etc. They also get taught for watch keeping, parts of the Ship, Ship Construction, marine meteorology and safety tactics. 

If a candidate is pursuing DNS, then he/she will not get a technical degree. However, after completion of diploma course, the cadet will serve 18 months of sea time to get a B.Sc. degree. Pre-sea training makes versatile merchant navy professions by covering all the aspects and technicalities of ship management for their skill development. 

The eligibility for pre-sea training is a 10th and 12th pass, but in case of pre-sea training in marine engineering, the criteria are to have a diploma with a minimum 50% of marks. However, B.Sc., B.E., B.Tech degree holders can also pursue this course and explore the life and career at sea. 
Scope
There is a massive scope of Pre Sea training because it gives the opportunity to be promoted on various higher ranks in the merchant navy. One can be a navigation officer, chief officer, captain or can hold different other positions on the deck side. Further, the individual can open the doors of being a lecturer, professor, Training Master in renowned institutes or can run college or organization.
