An Engine Cade Goes Missing from MV Taif Vessel Anchored at Mogadisu Port (Somalia)

An engine cadet by the name of Bharath Nagendra Manikanta Nakka went missing from an
Indian vessel, M/V Taif on 17 th January 2018 from Mogadisu Port near Northeastern
Somalia. The vessel en-route to Mogadishu had dropped anchor near Mogadisu harbor for
carrying out necessary repairs following emergence of engine trouble. WESTLINE SHIP
MANAGEMENT PVT LTD (THE MANNING AGENCY) came to know that a crew member was
untraceable, and notified the Mogadish port, and the relevant authorities on the same day
of the incident.
WESTLINE learnt that the Crew On-board, while conducting the engine repairs on 17 th
January discovered that the cadet was missing. The entire crew of the ship after they were
woken up immediately started searching for the missing cadet but in vain. The firm did
everything possible to trace the cadet, including sending a man overboard and dispatching
earnest Distress messages to the vessel’s managers, owners, agent, and the Mogadishu Port
officials. The shipping firm finds it really disheartening that the cadet has still not been
traced.
